COME ON INTO THE WATER!

Pixeldaddy is proud to announce he will be working on some creative for ‘Depth’ a video game currently in development. The Depth team are creating something very special, this multiplayer game is refreshing in its concept, beautiful in its underwater visuals and the atmosphere is a mixture of serene ambience and terrifying intensity.

People are going to have some heart pounding fun with this game.

Here is a brief overview and list of features from the website:

Off the coast of present day Mexico a team of fearless divers are preparing to loot sunken treasure from shark infested waters. To emerge with their limbs intact, they must use every trick at their disposal to outsmart, avoid, or disable a pack of vicious man-eating sharks. Depth is a competitive multiplayer game which blends heart pounding hide-and-seek gameplay and visceral action in a dark aquatic world. Predator, or Thief. which will you be?

- Be a Shark : Take control of a 21 foot man-eater as you find and dismember sneaky divers.

- Shark vision : Experience the sights , sounds and smells of the shark’s world. Track prey by the disturbances they make in the water, or the sound of their heartbeat.

- Be a Thief : Loot a wealth of glittering Sunken booty from the bottom of the ocean, by outsmarting and evading your hungry opposition.

- Heart Pounding Stealth: Take cover in dense sea-weed, squeeze into wrecks, and stay as quiet as possible while sharks patrol overhead!

- Full Body Dismemberment : Tear off your victim’s limbs one by one and leave him to bleed out, or show him mercy and end it with a final bite.

All images are from work-in-progress.

Street artist Paul 183 born and living in Moscow has plenty of nice work on his website but it’s his ‘Light paintings’ that caught my attention. Projecting imagery onto steam and fog during a cold day and taking long exposures of the light. Creating haunting but colourful and beautiful imagery. Very inspirational stuff!

DATE STAMP PAINTINGS

Frederico Pietrella an artist born in Rome, now living and working in Berlin has made a wonderful selection of paintings using a rubber date stamp. Close up you can see the complex arrangement of the ink dates layered but when viewed from a distance the painting take on an almost photographic feel. Great work.

Salt, to cleanse the soul.

These images by Motoi Yamamoto are made with salt! and quite frankly I’m lost for words. Here is a quote I think describes best the artist and his work:

‘After his sister died of brain cancer, Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto began constructing enormous, detailed labyrinths. They’re temporary installations made out of ground salt and reflect a special significance that his culture places on that mineral:

In Japanese culture salt is not only a necessary element to sustain human life, but it is also a symbol of purification. He uses salt in loose form to create intricate labyrinth patterns on the gallery floor or in baked brick form to construct large interior structures. As with the labyrinths and innavigable passageways, Motoi views his installations as exercises which are at once futile yet necessary to his healing.’

Incredible 3D paintings by Riusuke Fukahori.

There’s a strong chance you have seen the insane work of Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori already, his 3D paintings have a lot of exposure on the web at the moment. There’s a big buzz about his work and it’s easy to see why. These hyper realistic images are made by painting an acrylic layer over clear resin, creating a slice of the image. This is repeated over and over until the stacked slices form the 3D fish.

The process is easier to understand by watching this video.

PHOTOREALIST PAINTINGS

It’s difficult not to be impressed with the technical skill of Diego Gravinese. Personally I was in awe of his meticulous paintings. But it’s not just the realism of these painting that intrigued me it was the subject matter and the way that they have been captured - snapshots of personal moments. And indeed you can even see how he as managed to reproduce effects from the photographic medium, the harshness of the flash, saturated or over exposed colours. Amazing work.

See more at his website.

INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF ASTRONOMY

Designer & illustrator Simon Page created these wonderful posters in 2009 for the International Astronomical Union, The international Year of Astronomy was a global campaign to help people reawaken the sense of wonder in knowing our place within the universe - via the day & night skies. It’s the simplicity of these designs that I find so beautiful. You can see the rest of the series here.

Pingu’s THE THING

Remember ‘Pingu’?, Remember John Carpenter’s ‘THE THING’? Well Lee Hardcastle a ‘claymator’ has combined the two for a devilishly fun short movie. With half a million hits within four days, Lee sites this as a landmark in his career. John Carpenter himself sent Lee a message saying he loved it. Brilliant stuff.

Some fantastic work by Photographer Tom Hussy. The series was created for Novartis and their campaign for the drug ‘Exelon Patch’. The patch is used to help those with memory problems and other issues caused by Alzheimer’s. I think the concept speaks for itself really and it’s beautifully done.

Here is a selection of weird and wonderful work by the artist Patti Jordan. When I first saw these images I thought I was looking at some strange scans of distorted bone, teeth or some other organic matter. It turns out it is actually ink poured and pulled across paper with a metal ruler. A really interesting technique and outcome.

Seen on But does it float.

GENTLEMEN WOLVES
Peter Stults is another fab artist I found on Behance network. Based in New York and working in Illustration and Digital Art it was a real pleasure to find his work. This piece from the series ‘Gentlemen Wolves’ caught my eye first. Anyone that knows me well is probably aware I have a thing for animal heads on humans? But I love the style of this, reminds me of Stephen Bliss and his work for the GTA series. Brilliant work.
See the rest of the series ‘Gentlemen Wolves’.
Also see his ‘Movies from an Alternate Universe’ a Brilliant and amusing concept.

Viktor Gårdsäter

Today I had the pleasure of finding the portfolio of Viktor Gårdsäter. The freelance photographer based in Stockholm has a slightly unusual and individual style that suits portrait and fashion photography beautifully. These particular images are from a set called ‘Fashion Story’ in this series a man is running away in panic from the city into the woods but his clothing changes to the opposite of what is suitable for the environment.
